Privacy Policy

What we collect

We collect the minimum needed to run the archive:

• Your email address — used for sign-in and essential service messages only. It is never shown publicly.
• A pseudonymous username — assigned automatically at sign-up (e.g. athlete_x7k2pd); you can change it in your account settings.
• Tracks you upload — the audio file itself, plus the details you enter about it (team, club, season, producer, description), the original filename, and a fingerprint of the file used to stop the same track being uploaded twice. Each upload is linked to the account that made it.
• Play counts — we count plays per track so the archive can show what is popular. This is an aggregate number on the track; we do not build a history of what you personally listened to.

We do not collect real names, dates of birth (beyond an optional birth year), addresses, or payment details, and we do not sell your data.

What is public

Anything you upload is public: the track, the details you entered about it, and the credit to you as its uploader. Your uploader page (at /music/u/your-handle) is public too and shows your handle, your display name and profile picture if you have set them, your uploads, and your total play count and badges.

If you would rather not be identifiable, keep your automatically assigned pseudonymous handle and leave your display name and picture unset. You can delete any of your own uploads at any time from the track’s page.

Signing in

Sign-in is handled through Google. When you sign in, Google tells us your email address and, if your Google account has them, your name and profile picture; Google handles that exchange under its own privacy policy. We never see your Google password.

Cookies & sessions

We use a single first-party cookie, and it is strictly functional: a session cookie that keeps you signed in. Sessions are stored in our database and expire automatically.

There are no first-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Analytics

To understand how the archive is used and what to improve, we run privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics on our own servers (a self-hosted Umami instance). It records aggregate, anonymous data — page views, rough referrers, and a handful of events such as searches — without setting any cookies, without tracking you across other sites, and without collecting personal data. The data stays with CheerLibrary; it is never sent to an advertising network.

Advertising

The archive is free to use, and we intend to cover its running costs with advertising. The ad spaces you see today are inactive placeholders that set no cookies and collect nothing. If we switch on a real ad network, that network will set its own cookies and collect data under its own privacy policy — we will say so here before that happens, and we will not use behavioural ad targeting of minors.

Where your uploads are stored

Audio files are stored in Cloudflare R2 object storage and streamed to listeners through Cloudflare’s network. Cloudflare processes this on our behalf as our hosting provider; the files are not shared with anyone else.

Safeguarding minors

Cheerleading is a youth-heavy sport, so this matters. We do not ask for or display real names, ages, or locations, and we do not use behavioural ad targeting of minors — or of anyone else. The pseudonymous handle you are given at sign-up is designed so you can take part without being identifiable, and nothing on the site requires you to replace it.

Remember that a display name or profile picture you choose to set is shown publicly alongside your uploads. If the account belongs to a young athlete, we recommend leaving both unset.

Data retention & deletion

We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. You can delete your own uploads yourself at any time, which removes both the track and its audio file. You may also request deletion of your account and personal data at any time; we will remove your email and profile information. Any uploads you leave behind stay in the archive under the Contributor License Agreement, no longer linked to a live account, so the catalogue stays intact for the community.

Your choices

• Stay pseudonymous — keep your assigned handle, and skip the display name and picture.
• Change your username at any time.
• Delete any track you uploaded, from its page.
• Request a copy or deletion of your personal data.
